New students will have to suspend their egos.

Wing Tsun or “wing chun,” the art of different lineages, has had a controversial recent history. Because of a lack of accurate written history, we do not know its precise origins, only the stories.

Wing Tsun is a remarkable collection of skill-building drills and techniques designed for self-defense, not ring fighting. It is done in a very step-by-step learning program. New students will have to have patience with themselves as they dig deeper into their own abilities and limitations.

Wing Tsun offers brain challenges and benefits but also the strengthening of muscle groups you have never used before in any other martial arts. All legitimately taught martial arts have value, but you will have to put your previous training on the back shelf for this training and clear your mind.

The first form, Siu Nim Tau, is designed to do just that. The Siu Nim Tau (the Little Idea Form) is designed to calm you down from forceful movements that interfere with calm learning and retraining your mind-body connections. It contains very basic movements and stance for the rest of the art.

Starting out, get rid of any idea that relying on past knowledge, including other lineages, is helpful. Leave your ego at the door.
