The biggest difference is that we dig deep in the best ways to defend against a stronger, more aggressive attacker. Wing Tsun is not a ring art. It is a self-defense system. If Wing Tsun were to be converted to a ring fighting art, many areas of attack on the human body would have to be ruled “against the rules.” In a real-life self-defense situation, there are no rules.
What makes Leung Ting WingTsun® different is the focus on using an attacker’s force against them by proper training on “soft” techniques instead of rigid body mechanics. A rigid structure can always be met with a superior force (a stronger attacker). However, if you give up this idea and instead let your attacker commit his attack and use Leung Ting Wing Tsun’s exclusive footwork to evade, deflect or dissolve the attack at the same moment of his attack, you do not have to be stronger to defend.
Leung Ting WingTsun® is economical in movement. It is better to use fewer movements to prevail instead of adding an extra movement that accomplishes nothing. However, adding a movement that has a function such as setting the attacker up for a successful strike might be an exception. Such a movement cannot be planned. Your attacker’s intensions can be felt through contact with his limbs or body and a Wing Tsun practitioner responds accordingly.
